Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Procedures can be found here.

GENERAL

Please give us a quick ring on (01691) 622 922 and a member of our team will assist you in arranging a suitable time for you to come and visit.

Yes, Little Poppets Nursery is Ofsted registered. You can view a copy of our latest Ofsted report here.

We are open Monday – Friday from 7:30am am until 6 pm.  We are open all year, with the exception of bank holidays and a week at Christmas.

All staff undergo full DBS Checks prior to starting work at Little Poppets Nursery.

Our doors to each room are protected with digital locks; we operate a password system via an intercom to check new/unexpected adults who arrive to collect children.

Our outside space/garden is completely secure with a high wall and a locked gate.

Please call the nursery to advise us of any late collection and let us know who will be collecting.

Unnotified late arrivals incur a fixed charge of £5.00 for every 15 minutes that you are late.

Children are offered a wide variety of age appropriate activities that are intended to inspire and extend their independent learning. Staff carefully plan play based activities based on children current interests, developmental needs and often seasonal or cultural dates of celebration.

Referred to as the early years foundation stage (EYFS), they are a set of standards that we use for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.

All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes. For information about this can be found here.

Please contact us for more information on our nursery policies and procedures.

STARTING NURSERY

Following an agreed induction day/period your child will join us for their first day supported by their ‘key person’ who will carefully guide them through the routine and structure of the day.

We believe there is no inappropriate weather only inappropriate clothes. Please send in appropriate clothes to suit our seasons including:

  • Wellies
  • All in ones
  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Sun cream
  • Sun hats

The nursery carries a small selection of spare clothes so if you know your child is likely to need a number of changes through the day then please send some spare clothes with them for us to use.

Your child’s key person will hand over your child at the end of the day and will give you a full rundown of their day with us at Little Poppets. Keep an eye out for our latest blogs as well!

Our very littlest of poppets will have a communication book which travels with them from home to nursery and back again.

FOOD

We ensure we offer the children a varied and healthy diet made from fresh and tasty produce. Please contact us for more information regarding our menu.

We can accommodate for all dietary and cultural requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free & nut free. If we’ve missed anything off the list, please get in contact and let us know.

STAFF

All of our staff are trained to a minimum level 3 in Early Years Care and Education. Also, all staff have Paediatric First Aid Training, Food Safety Training and Safeguarding Training.

Please see our staff profiles for individual experience help by our team.

Staff are distributed to meet the requirement set out in the Early Years Statutory guidance and varies across the age groups.

As a minimum we are required to have:

  • 0-2 years will be staffed 1:3
  • 2-3 Years wil be staffed 1:4
  • 3-4 Years will be staffed 1:8

The number of staff in nursery can vary on a day to day basis and is responsive directly to the number of children in attendance each day. However, myself and Kim often help out to support staff and children, or step in to provide staff cover during training or staff holidays.

ILLNESS

Poorly children need to be at home with parents/carers. You will be contacted if your child is unwell and arrangements will need to be made for someone to come and collect them. Staff will offer children a quiet space where children can rest and lie down until they are collected.

Please do let someone at nursery know if your child is ill and cannot attend nursery at your earliest convenience.

Prescription medication can be admitted by staff during your child’s day at nursery. However; if your child becomes poorly whilst in nursery, you will be notified and asked to make arrangement to come and collect your child from the nursery.
